Dating is a tricky business, a mix of nerves and expectation creates a lethal cocktail which can lead to exhilarating, embarrassing or confusing experiences. No matter what happens our philosophy is that you should never regret the dates you went on, only the ones you didn’t go on! Remember that the butterflies you are feeling are also in your date’s stomach so cut each other a bit of slack and laugh at the confusion and randomness of the whole thing!

We asked some of our friends for their funniest date stories to prove it’s not just you who has crazy stories!
Sarah, 32: I was meeting a guy for a first date in Café en Siene, I was a bag of nerves walking in to meet him but I tried to put them to the back of my mind and convince myself that I was looking good and that it would go ok. I was relieved when I saw him and in no time our conversation was in full swing. Out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimmer of light and when I turned my head to see what it was I was shocked to see that there were flames on our table. In my rush to sit down and get the awkward hellos out of the way, I had put my clutch on the candle on the table which had now caught fire and burst into flames. We both jumped out of our seats and after the surprise of what was happening, my date put the fire out like a total hero! I was mortified however it is a date that I will never forget!

Sinead, 29: I met my date in the arcade on Henry Street and we decided to go for a drink so we began walking towards O’Connell Street. It was our second date so we knew each other a little bit and we were chatting and getting on like a house on fire in no time. I was looking at him and thinking about how gorgeous he is and the next think Bang! I find myself flat on my back looking up at the sky! A junkie had been chasing his friend down the street and ran straight into me, sending me flying and onto the ground!! My date was down beside me in no time and helped me up. I didn’t know how I was going to recover from it, I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry! In the end we laughed it off and went on to get that much-needed drink!

Christina, 31: My date wouldn’t tell me what bar we were going to, he wanted to keep it as a surprise. So I met him and we began walking, with him leading the way. It was raining quite heavily and I was a bit frustrated as I had straight hair and heels on, not ideal rain walking gear! After walking for a little while I noticed we were passing the same building we had been at earlier, when I called him out on it, he started laughing. He thought it would be funny and wanted to see how long it took me to notice we were going around in circles. I wasn’t impressed, not the greatest start to a date but he recovered and actually had a really good sense of humour. He even got a kiss at the end of the night despite the rocky start!
